Science Olympiad Team 2023-2024
The Science Olympiad tournament is a rigorous academic interscholastic competition that consists of a series of different hands-on, interactive, challenging and inquiry-based events that are well balanced between the various disciplines of biology, earth science, environmental science, chemistry, physics, engineering, and technology. The tournament consists of 15 events that the team will prepare for throughout the school year. The Science Olympiad tournament will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at West Wilkes Middle School. If you cannot commit to participating at this event (ball tournaments, recitals, plays, etc), please do not apply. We appreciate your child's interst but this is a one day event and the students deserve to show their hard work off. Each member of the team will choose up to three events that they will become experts in and compete on tournament day. Being a member of the Science Olympiad team requires dedication, hard work, and after-school meetings. The team is limited to 18 members that are committed to work hard and learn the material. Students need to complete the work or study for the event at home. The team will meet once a week after school starting in January so members can work with other teammates and test their hands-on activities.
When letters are sent out, we invite students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade to fill out the interest letter and return it to their teacher. If we have an excessive amount of students sign up to become part of the Science Olympiad team, we will review teacher recommendations, past grades, and attendance history. If your child is chosen to be part of a team, you will be notified of dates and times for after school meetings.
